Job Purpose
To work across multiple departments and a range of roles providing support to Union staff, students, and prospective students.
Accountabilities:
Be visible and engaged with the SU, encouraging others to do the same.
Responsibilities:
Student Facing
- Represent Reading Students’ Union in a positive manner, maintaining a polite, friendly, and professional attitude at all times
- Be a welcoming face, acting as a friendly and helpful point of contact for students, providing excellent customer service at events like freshers' fairs, open days, and SU stands
- Work effectively as part of a team of Ambassadors, communicating with teammates and Union staff to ensure the success of activities and events
- Help set up and run pop-up stalls for various SU campaigns like elections and Summer Ball.
Operational Support
- Assist with the running of major events like Freshers’ Fair and Refreshers’ Fair: directing students, managing queues, and providing important information
- Provide help with event logistics, including moving equipment and setting up stalls and tables
General
- Develop and promote a culture of excellence in customer service
- Undertake any other tasks commensurate with the level of appointment that may from time to time be reasonably requested
- Maintain health & safety protocols at all times
- Be flexible and willing to take on various tasks as needed
Hours of work
Part-time role for student staff on a zero-hour contract. Expectations would be 5-15 hours a month during term time, peak busy periods may require more hours, but no more than 20 hours per week. This role can be taken alongside other Student Union part-time work providing you do not exceed 20 hours per week across all roles. However, we cannot guarantee regular hours. All student staff should plan to be available during our busy period over Welcome (Sunday, 20th – Friday, 25th September) and Election period (1st February – 19th March 2027) and during larger campaigns as necessary. All successful applicants should be available for training on 15 September (Tuesday afternoon), at Reading Students’ Union.
