We're hiring Content Creators to capture authentic student life through short-form video, photos, and behind-the-scenes content across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Job Purpose:
To create engaging, authentic digital content, predominantly short-form video, capturing student life, Union events, and key campaigns to enhance Reading Students’ Union’s online presence and engagement.

Accountabilities:

Be a creative voice and visual storyteller for Reading SU, capturing authentic student experiences and driving online engagement across key official channels.

Responsibilities:

Content & Digital Media

  • Film quality video content and take photo assets during major SU events (e.g., Freshers’ Fair, Summer Ball, elections, club nights, pop-ups).
  • Research, plan, film and edit short-form video content (TikToks, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts) aligned with current social trends and Union brand guidelines.
  • Present on camera, conduct vox pops/street interviews with students, and act as an authentic face of Reading SU across digital channels.
  • Assist in writing catchy, student friendly captions that align with the SU brand tone of voice.

Crea tive & Operational Support

  • Brainstorm innovative campaign concepts alongside the SU Marketing team to increase student awareness of SU services and events.
  • Attend key Union events (including Wednesday Union), campaigns, and key student spaces to capture a comprehensive feel of campus life.
  • On occasion,assist with the promotion of key events and campaigns through flyering and campus activities.

General

  • Maintain brand consistency, inclusivity and appropriateness across all created content.
  • Undertake any other tasks commensurate with the level of appointment that may form time to time be reasonably requested
  • Maintain health & safety protocols at all times, especially while filming and using digital equipment on site.
  • Be flexible and willing to take on various tasks as needed.

Person Specification

  • Experience creating video content for social platforms (TikTok, Instagram Reels).
  • Experience taking photos/filming on mobile devices or cameras.
  • Experience using basic mobile or desktop video editing software (e.g., CapCut, Adobe Suite, Canva).
  • Experience creating content for a brand, club, society, or commercial page.
  • Experience hosting or appearing on-camera.
  • Basic photography/lighting setups or camera equipment handling.

  • Strong knowledge of current social media trends, viral audio, and digital formats.
  • Creative eye for composition, lighting, and storytelling.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, manage editing deadlines, and work independently.
  • Understanding of social media analytics and post-performance metrics.

  • Confident, outgoing, and comfortable speaking to students on and off camera.
  • Ability to work proactively and use personal initiative to spot content opportunities.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional late evenings/weekends for events.
