STEM Futures Primary School Outreach Coordinator (x3)
UHI STEM Futures is an innovative one-year pilot programme developed in collaboration with The Highland Council. Funded by SSE Hydro STEM and delivered alongside the Science Skills Academy's Newton Room offering, the programme aims to inspire and support the next generation of STEM learners. We are now recruiting for 3 x part time STEM Futures Primary School Outreach Coordinators to help bring this exciting project to life.
The STEM Futures Primary School Outreach Coordinators will support teachers in delivering STEM learning with fun, hands on, curriculum linked activities in class in a number of selected primary schools, using bespoke STEM topic Discovery kits which are designed to support P6 & P7 age groups. Pay and Benefits
For Primary School STEM Coordinators the role is linked to grade 5 on the UHI payscale.
The starting salary for this position will normally be in the range £28,434 - £31,072 pa pro-rata. For exceptional candidates a higher salary up to the top of the grade (currently £34,971 per annum pro-rata) may be available. We may be able to consider a secondment for primary school teachers currently employed by Highland Council in which case your current salary rate would apply.
This post is fixed term from mid August 2026 until 31 st July 2027 subject to funding. There is no guarantee of further employment after the expiry of this term.
The posts are part time 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours per week) if directedly employed by UHI OR if you are a Highland Primary school teacher who would like to be seconded to the post then 0.4 FTE (14 hours per week). Please note if you are considering a secondment you should seek approval from your line manager.
This post is subject to a Disclosure Scotland Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme check, so please let us know if you are currently a PVG scheme member.
The workplace pension scheme provided to workers at grade five and below is the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). This is a qualifying pension scheme, which means it meets or exceeds the government’s standards. Full-time posts carry a total of 42 days leave per annum (pro rata for part-time posts). It is practice that, with the exception of a Christmas and New Year closure, leave may be taken at any time of year, subject to the requirements of the post and department and with the permission of your line manager. If you are considering a secondment your leave entitlement would be as your current employment contract.
