Our  staff  are  required  to  work  on  a  range  of  different  sites,  including;  college  campuses,
employer’s premises or communities local to your learners home - therefore willingness to
travel  is  essential.  There  may  be  a  requirement  to  transport  learners  in  your  own  car,
insurance implications are reimbursed. Mileage and expenses are provided for travel during
the working day.

Job Purpose:
Our Speech and Language Therapist (Band 5) will provide assessment, intervention, and
support for young people with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) within
a specialist further education setting. The post holder will work as part of a
multidisciplinary team to embed communication support within teaching, learning, and
daily college life. The focus of the role will be to provide integrated support to enable
learners to achieve greater independence, engagement and preparation for adulthood.

Main Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include, but are not restricted to:

Clinical

•  To assess the speech, language, and communication needs of learners using formal

and informal assessment tools.

•  To contribute to learner initial assessment, to determine what support needs may

be required for a learner's programme.

•  To prioritise indirect and integrated approaches, embedding communication

strategies within curriculum delivery.

•  To deliver targeted direct intervention (1:1 or small group) where clinically

indicated, ensuring it complements classroom-based support.

•  To monitor, evaluate, and adapt interventions based on learner progress and

meaningful outcomes.

•  To contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including writing

reports and attending annual reviews.

•  To maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical records in line with

professional standards.

Education & Training

•  To work collaboratively with tutors to support the planning of communication-

accessible and inclusive sessions.

•  To support tutors and support staff to set, review, and embed communication

targets within teaching and learning activities, under supervision where appropriate.

•  To coach and model strategies within the classroom to build staff confidence and

competence.

•  To support the development and delivery of training for staff on speech, language,
and communication needs and inclusive practice, with guidance from the Integrated
Therapy Manager.

•  To develop resources and communication-friendly environments that support

engagement, independence, and participation.

Collaborative Working

•  To work collaboratively with tutors, learning support staff, occupational therapists,

learner welfare, positive behaviour leads, and other professionals within the college.

•  To support a whole-college approach to communication, ensuring consistency

across education, therapy, and support.

•  To liaise with families/carers to support generalisation of communication strategies

beyond the college setting.
