The role
Are you an experienced retail leader with a passion for books, people and community? Join St Richard’s Hospice as our Shop Manager – Malvern Book Shop and use your retail expertise to help raise vital funds for hospice care across Worcestershire.
This is much more than managing a bookshop. You’ll lead a welcoming retail environment where donated books find new homes, volunteers thrive, and customers return time and again. Every sale helps provide compassionate care and support for patients and their loved ones.
As Shop Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Lead and develop a dedicated team of volunteers.
- Drive sales and maximise income through effective retail management.
- Create an inviting, well-organised bookshop with engaging displays and merchandising.
- Develop your specialist knowledge of books to maximise their value and appeal.
- Build lasting relationships with customers, donors and the local community.
- Organise themed promotions, seasonal displays
- Make commercial decisions that ensure every donation achieves its greatest potential.

Every book donated tells a story—and every book sold helps write a new chapter of compassionate hospice care.

About you
You’ll be someone who enjoys creating a welcoming shopping experience and inspiring others to achieve their best.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Proven retail management or supervisory experience.
- Specialist knowledge of books and literature
- Experience leading, motivating and developing volunteers or teams.
- Strong commercial awareness and a passion for achieving sales targets.
- Excellent customer service skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
- An eye for visual merchandising and creating attractive, organised displays.
- An interest in books, literature or second-hand retail, with the willingness to develop knowledge of book categories and pricing.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Retail experience is essential for the role.
Charity retail experience is desirable for the role.
