Play a key role in shaping the safety, health and environmental (SHE) culture of a respected organisation. This is an opportunity to lead meaningful change, influence senior stakeholders and ensure high standards of compliance, assurance and continuous improvement across the business.
What you’ll be doing
You will take ownership of BRE’s SHE management system, ensuring it is effective, compliant and driving real impact.
Key areas of focus include:

Leading SHE audits, inspections and assurance activity across the organisation

Ensuring compliance with UK legislation, internal standards and certification requirements

Overseeing incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective actions

Managing SHE risk, performance reporting and continuous improvement initiatives

Supporting internal and external audits and maintaining audit readiness

Driving a positive safety culture through leadership, communication and training
-
Working closely with senior leaders to embed SHE into business processes

Line management of SHE team member(s) and oversight of SHE budget and KPIs
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a confident, experienced SHE professional who can balance technical expertise with strong leadership and influence.
You will bring:

Experience in a SHE Manager / HSE / SHEQ / EHS leadership role

Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and regulatory compliance

Hands-on experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems

A track record in audits, inspections, incident investigation and assurance

Proven ability to influence stakeholders and lead culture change

Strong analytical skills, including use of SHE data and KPI reporting
-
Experience operating in regulated or operational environments (e.g. built environment, engineering, manufacturing or similar)

NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and IOSH membership (GradIOSH/CMIOSH preferred)
Location and working pattern
This role is based at the BRE Science Park in Watford, with an expectation to work on site 3–4 days per week (flexi-hybrid).
