Kids is seeking a dedicated Sessional Assistant Practitioner to support disabled children, young people, and their families within our Early Years setting. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop professional skills in a rewarding environment while making a meaningful impact.

Location: Shakespeare Road, Popley, Basingstoke RG24 9BP (Conveniently located on a bus route from the town centre).
Salary: £13.28 - £14.88 per hour (including holiday pay)

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with disabled children and young people during issue-based group sessions, fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere.
  • Ensure that children and young people’s voices are heard, respected, and actively considered in decision-making.
  • Collaborate with practitioners, senior workers, and coordinators to maintain best practices and address any issues as they arise.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people in your care.
  • Recognise and support the social, emotional, and communication needs of each child, encouraging their participation in group activities.
  • Maintain an awareness of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted requirements within the setting.
  • Support the evaluation and documentation of group sessions while assisting key children under the guidance of the room lead.
  • Participate in Kids’ induction and ongoing training programs to enhance professional development.
  • Comply with all Kids policies and procedures, including safeguarding, data protection, and equality of opportunity.
  • Empower children and young people to engage in activities that promote inclusion, independence, and choice.
  • Develop strong, supportive relationships with children, young people, and their families.
  • Attend regular supervision meetings with the Kids coordinator or designated line manager.

About You

Essential Skills & Experience

  • NVQ Level 2 in Early Years (or working towards).
  • Experience supporting disabled children and young people.
  • Ability to meet the individual needs of young children in a care or education setting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience in personal care and manual handling.
  • Awareness of the needs and challenges faced by disabled children and young people, with an understanding of how to support their confidence and emotional wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, data protection, and equal opportunities.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Evidence of additional training, such as First Aid or Food Hygiene.
  • First Aid certification (training can be provided if required).
