For September 2026, Cheltenham College seeks a dedicated and proactive Senior Chemistry Technician. The successful candidate will join our dynamic Science Department and play a key role in delivering outstanding practical science lessons and supporting exciting departmental events such as the ever-popular Chemistry Spectacular.

About Us
The Science Department is one of the largest in the College and is housed in a purpose-built facility featuring modern laboratories, prep rooms, a library, resource centre and workshop space. The Chemistry Department itself is a thriving, forward-thinking environment with five laboratories, specialist prep rooms and excellent technical resources supporting both practical and demonstration work.
The Role
As Chemistry Technician, you will support the delivery of practical chemistry teaching across the department, ensuring resources, equipment and laboratories are prepared, maintained and operating effectively. Working closely with teaching staff and fellow technicians, you will help create an engaging and safe learning environment for pupils.
As a Senior Technician post, it is essential that you have excellent knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, COSHH and that risk assessments are carried out in line with CLEAPSS guidance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and coordinating practical activities across all year groups
- Organising chemicals, equipment and laboratory resources
- Supporting teachers with practical lesson requirements
- Maintaining laboratory safety standards and stock control
- Assisting with demonstrations and practical investigations
- Helping to ensure laboratories and prep rooms are efficiently managed and well maintained
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Can manage competing priorities in a busy school environment
- Has excellent organisational and communication skills
- Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team
- Demonstrates initiative and attention to detail
- Has an ongoing interest in science and practical laboratory work
- Has previous laboratory or school technician experience, though training may be provided for the right candidate
Salary: Up to salary point E. (£29,582.00per annum) The salary will be pro-rated to £24,864.00 to reflect the term-time nature of the role. 0.84 FTE.
Working pattern:
- Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm
- 84 FTE – This is a term-time plus 6-week contract (39 weeks). The 6 additional weeks shall be worked during the school holidays.
