We are looking for a versatile and enthusiastic Brass teacher to teach in the Senior School (aged 11-18) and Junior School (aged 7-11) that is able to build numbers in brass playing. The Music Department owns a large number of brass instruments, which can be loaned to pupils. We are looking to cover the following:
- Up to half a day of individual brass teaching in the short term with the capacity to expand to more over the longer term.
- Brass taster sessions to build interest and uptake in the Junior School.
- Beginner brass sessions to build interest and uptake in the Senior School.
- Seven hours per week of brass taster sessions in the second half of the Spring Term on Wednesdays and Fridays during all 1styear academic Music lessons (year 7). This is a taster scheme that operates only between February half-term and Easter in order to stimulate the uptake of brass instruments.
Person Specification:
- Ability to teach the full range of brass instruments.
- Ability to teach boys and girls of Junior and Senior age groups.
- Ability to teach pupils of varying levels and abilities from Beginner level to Grade 8 and beyond.
- Ability and experience in teaching both individually and in groups.
- Ability and experience in preparing pupils for grade exams.
- Ability to vary the teaching style and approach to suit different pupils.
- Ability to relate well to pupils, staff and parents.
- Ability to encourage, motivate and inspire pupils.
- Drive and ambition to find creative ways of inspiring interest in brass playing.
- Willingness to be flexible in dealing with the complex nature of day-to-day life in a busy school.
- Flexibility of working hours.
- Willingness to go the extra mile for pupils.
- It would also be an advantage for applicants to offer ways that they could potentially contribute the wider musical life of the school – e.g. directing ensembles, accompanying their pupils in performances and exams.
