Contract: Freelance, October 2026 to March 2027
Fee: Up to £3,500 for work completed towards the project. Payments will be agreed against set deliverables throughout the course of the contract.
BFI are looking to engage two new members to the BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival Selection Committee. In this role, you will work alongside committee members and the internal BFI Programming team to craft the 2027 festival programme and deliver on-stage presentations with filmmakers during the festival, which will be held in March 2027 in London.
Key Deliverables:
- View up to 60 feature films, 60 short films (combination of first and second views) and submit viewing notes to BFI internal programme
- Attend programme meetings and make recommendations for the programme based on viewing and festival strands
- Work with Flare Events and Production Manager for events and additional festival content
- Write up to 15 pieces of copy for programme guide
- Host festival introductions and Q&As or post screening discussions, as agreed with internal Flare programme team, throughout the festival dates
- Attend hospitality events and filmmaker lunches, receptions and hospitality events, as agreed with Filmmaker and Industry Services Manager
About You:
- Significant, demonstrate experience of film and event programming for audiences in a film festival, cinema, or closely related cultural industry
- A passion for and significant previous experience programming for LGBTQIA+ cinema and cultural events
- Demonstrable knowledge of a broad range of international cinema and historical film
- Demonstrable experience preparing for and presenting public Q&A’s, introductions and programme copy writing.
