Contract: This is a full-time, permanent position on Crick terms and conditions of employment.

About the role
We are looking for a Scientific Asset Manager to join our Service Delivery team at the Crick.
You will play a key role in supporting Crick scientists to deliver ground-breaking research by ensuring the effective management of shared scientific equipment across the Institute. Responsible for the full asset lifecycle, from acquisition and commissioning through to maintenance, replacement and disposal, you will ensure equipment is accurately recorded, strategically planned, and maintained to maximise availability, performance and value for money.
Working closely with researchers, Science Technology Platforms and suppliers, the role combines asset management, contract oversight and data-driven planning to support the long-term sustainability of the Institute’s scientific infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and highly organised individual who enjoys working at the intersection of science, operations and strategic planning. With over 100 independent research groups and approximately 18 Science Technology Platforms relying on state-of-the-art technologies, the Scientific Asset Manager will play a vital part in enabling world-class, cutting-edge research.

What you will be doing
Scientific Asset Management and governance
• Oversee processes that support the lifecycle of scientific assets, including
procurement, onboarding, maintenance, relocation and decommissioning.
• Ensure high value scientific assets are recorded on the database and are reconciled with financial records.
• Work with the risk compliance team to ensure the Crick meets all regulatory
requirements for scientific assets
Database management
• Maintain up to date records of service contracts and warranties for the portfolio of scientific assets and platforms across the Crick
• Work with the Asset Management team to maintain the fidelity of the scientific asset database. Develop an in-depth knowledge of the scientific asset database (Planon)
Service contract Management
• Support the Service Delivery team in the upkeep, servicing and repair of communal equipment, and manage redistribution or removal of surplus/obsolete equipment
• Host contractors for Planned Preventative Maintenance visit (PPMs) for equipment on service contracts, adhering to Control of Works procedures and facilitating the safe access to the laboratories
About you
You will have:
- Educated to degree level, or equivalent in a science discipline or extensive laboratory management experience with administrative responsibilities *
- A collaborative approach and ability to build professional working relationships with stakeholders at all organisational levels
- Broad understanding of scientific procedures and specialist equipment within a research environment *
- Experience negotiating with suppliers, and managing relationships with scientific companies and contractors Budget management experience for equipment and consumables *
- Strong, pragmatic problem-solving skills, be able to balance operational needs with the bigger picture and the strategic goals of the Institute *
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to deal confidently and diplomatically with a diverse range of staff
