To deliver electrical recycling operations through collection, transportation and processing of waste and reusable materials, including driving a 7.5 tonne vehicle (Category C1). The role supports safe, compliant and efficient recycling services across yard and off-site locations.
Delivers operational recycling and collection activities in line with health and safety and transport legislation. Operates 7.5 tonne and 3.5 tonne vehicles and forklift trucks as required. Works both within the yard and across external sites, including business-to-business collections. Limited discretion within established procedures, escalating unusual or high-risk issues to the supervisor.
People Responsibility
No formal line management responsibility. May provide informal guidance when paired with another operative during collections.
Financial & Resource Responsibility
No direct budget responsibility. Responsible for accurate completion of collection and compliance documentation and safeguarding company vehicles and equipment.
Principle Accountabilities
• Operate 7.5 tonne (Category C1) and 3.5 tonne vehicles in accordance with transport legislation and company procedures
• Conduct electrical waste collections from recycling sites and commercial clients
• Load and unload vehicles and trailers safely and efficiently
• Sort materials into appropriate recycling or reuse categories in line with operational procedures
• Strip electrical equipment and securely destroy hard drives where required
• Complete operational and compliance paperwork accurately and in a timely manner
• Carry out daily safety and maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment, reporting defects promptly
Planning and Organising
Plans and prioritises day-to-day activities in line with collection schedules and operational requirements. Adapts to route changes and operational demands as necessary.
Decision-Making/Use of Judgement
Exercises judgement within defined operational and transport frameworks, particularly in relation to safe driving, load security and on-site risk assessment. Escalates non-routine or safety-related issues to the supervisor.
Problem Solving & Complexity
Resolves primarily routine operational and logistical issues, including route adjustments and material handling challenges. Errors could result in safety risks, vehicle damage, regulatory non-compliance or reputational impact.
Essential:
• Full UK driving licence
• 7.5 tonne (Category C1) driving licence
• Health and safety awareness, including manual handling and fire safety knowledge
• Ability to operate power tools safely
• Basic customer service skills
• Awareness of GDPR and data protection principles
• Ability to work independently with integrity and accountability
