As the first point of contact for students, visitors, and staff at the SU, you will play a key role in creating a positive first experience for everyone who visits us. About Cambridge SU:
Cambridge SU is the representative body for over 24,000 students at the University of Cambridge. As a registered charity, we exist to represent, support, and empower students throughout their university journey. Led by elected Sabbatical Officers, we deliver campaigns, support student societies, and provide independent advice and services that make a real difference to student life.
The Role:
Working as part of our Reception team, you'll help ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of our reception desk, shop, and student services. You'll provide a friendly and professional welcome to visitors, assist students with enquiries, and support the wider team through a variety of administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing front-of-house reception cover and maintaining a welcoming environment
- Greeting visitors and assisting students with enquiries
- Answering, screening, and directing telephone calls
- Responding to enquiries via phone, email, and in person
- Signposting students to relevant University and support services
- Supporting administrative processes including filing and mail handling
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and professional reception area
- Monitoring and replenishing office supplies
- Supporting reception, shop, and service operations during busy periods and staff absences

- Previous customer service experience
- Experience working in a front-of-house or reception environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence communicating with people from a wide range of backgrounds
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- The ability to prioritise tasks and work independently
- A proactive, flexible, and positive attitude
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- A willingness to provide sexual health supplies to students as part of the role
Working Hours:
This is a part-time position offering a minimum of 8 hours per week. Reception operates Monday to Friday, from 9:30am to 5:00pm, and shifts will be scheduled within these hours. The role is based at the University Centre in Cambridge.
