Role Summary
About the role

The British Museum is seeking a

Projects Coordinator: Constructionto support the delivery of construction and capital projects across its nationally significant museum estate.

Working closely with project managers, operations colleagues and external contractors, you will play a vital role in ensuring works are carefully coordinated, safely delivered and sensitively managed within an occupied heritage environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills, a collaborative approach and an interest in the heritage and museum sector to contribute to the care, development and improvement of historic buildings and public spaces.

About you

You will be an organised and proactive individual, comfortable working in a dynamic, project-based environment and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • NVQ Level 3, CSCS card or equivalent.
  • Able to read CAD drawings with an understanding of health & safety practices and CDM requirements is desirable.
  • Good IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in a support or coordination role within a complex organisation, ideally within a construction management or regulatory environment.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and communicate effectively with colleagues and contractors.
  • A positive, collaborative attitude and willingness to develop new skills.
Key areas of responsibility

You will provide day-to-day logistical and operational support to the Capital Development team, including:

  • Coordinating access for contractors and consultants across multiple museum sites.
  • Managing contractor and project-related enquiries via a central access inbox.
  • Preparing and submitting permits to work in line with museum policies and procedures.
  • Delivering site inductions for new contractors, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Arrange for museum-wide communications about upcoming works, including internal briefings and local neighbourhood notifications
  • Attending coordination meetings and reporting on forthcoming project activity.
  • Undertaking site walk-bys during construction to monitor safe working practices, housekeeping and access arrangements.
  • Assisting with project handovers and managing project elements under direction.

The role requires flexibility, as workloads will vary depending on project stages. Occasional early mornings, evenings or weekend working may be needed to support site activity.
