Oxfam is looking for Program Accountant
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Transaction management and processing – 65%
- Support the Operations and Finance Coordinator in ensuring Oxfam policy & procedures are implemented and minimum financial standards are achieved across the SAF Cluster
- To administer People Soft System and maintain data integrity; maintain proper filling system of electronic files & and ensure proper filling system of paper files
- To input transactions and maintain and reconcile the General Ledger
Management & Supervision- 5%
- Review field office/s transactions and ensure all expenditures are in line with budgets and Donor contracts
- Supervise Banking and liaison person with the Bank
- Review and ensure remittance of statutory obligations i.e. Annual returns
Programme Support – 30%
- Support Program Managers in preparing financial reports including some Donor Reports for review by Funding Coordinator and sign off by OFC
- Develop budget monitoring capacity amongst them, communicate & offer advice as required
- Be part of the Programme Leadership Team and work with the Business Development Coordinator and Programme managers in order to develop and maintain an effective budget monitoring and reporting system
An ideal candidate for the role will also be / have:
Technical Skills, Experience & Knowledge
Knowledge & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree combined with full professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA) or alternative a Masters degree in Finance, Accountancy or equivalent qualification
- At least 5 years accounting experience
- Proven experience and ability in the following areas of finance
- Preparation of monthly and annual accounts to Financial Statements level
- Preparation of general ledger reconciliation
- Knowledge of local taxation laws
- Cash flow forecasting and management.
- Budgeting experience for multiple cost centres
- Experience in working with multiple currencies
- Computer literacy: full working knowledge of MS suite and others.
- Knowledge of Oxfam Processing & reporting systems & tools
- Basic knowledge and understanding of general administrative management
- Previous experience with an NGO, as well as with institutional donors, such as, EC, DFID and UN is of distinct advantage
Skills
- Good professional presentation, interpersonal skills & a team worker.
- Ability to work, train & coach staff with differing levels of skills.
- Initiative, ability to prioritize tasks, work independently multi-task, and work under
- pressure
- Commitment to the aims and objectives of Oxfam
- Willingness to travel within the SAF Cluster
