About the Role
Are you feeling called to start something new? The Methodist Church is seeking a creative, prayerful, and courageous Pioneer to help us join in with what God is already doing beyond the walls of the church. We believe God is already at work in every community. This role is about noticing, joining in, and helping new life take root. It is about hope - quiet, persistent, and transformative.
You will be based within a new development ‘The Space’ which is in a vibrant part of Vauxhall in the London Borough of Lambeth, working alongside a Presbyter who is stationed to the Lambeth Circuit, with Pastoral oversight of ‘The Space’ and two churches in the circuit. You will be based in the building in Graphite Square (once it’s delivered), in the meantime there will be office space locally in Lambeth Walk Methodist church when required.
This is not a role for maintaining the status quo. It is an invitation to listen deeply, build relationships, and cultivate a new Christian community amongst those who have not engaged with church previously.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Engage with people who have little or no connection to church
-
Listen, discern, and respond to the spiritual and practical needs of the community
-
Develop new forms of Christian community, shaped by context and culture
-
Collaborate with the Lambeth circuit while also working independently to experiment and innovate
-
Nurture faith in ways that are accessible, authentic, and relational
Person We’re Looking For
-
A deep and resilient faith in Jesus Christ
-
Willingness to learn, adapt, and step out in faith is crucial
-
A self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity and change
-
Relational, curious, and rooted in their community
-
Ability to think creatively about mission, discipleship, and church
-
Confident in reflecting theologically with their practice
-
Values collaboration but not afraid to lead into the unknown
-
Previous experience in pioneering, community development, or fresh expressions of church is essential
