Role: Church and Community Mission Worker (CCMW)
Location: Wealdstone Methodist Church
Salary: £15.60 per hour
Hours: The post is for 15 hours a week (office based, over three week days). 3 Year Fixed Term Contract, with the possibility of renewal
Applicants are sought with practical experience of running or being involved with groups or social activities, current and active members of a Christian Church Community, and who have sympathy with the aims of the Methodist Church, and strong computer skills.
Some of the main duties will involve:

To build and to maintain a friendly and warm relationship with all Hirers and Users of the premises, and to be the Lettings Coordinator.

To maintain the Church’s Mission Action Plan, as directed by the Church Council.

To create links with Ecumenical, Interfaith, and other community groups within Wealdstone and the surrounding areas.
-
To work alongside the Church stewards and the Minister to provide some basic administrative assistance as appropriate.

To assist with the premises facilities management activities as required.

To attend quarterly Church Council meetings (4 evenings a year).

To submit quarterly reports to the Church Council relating to the role.

Any other duties identified by the Line Manager and Management Group that are within your capabilities and level of responsibility relating to the Church and Community Mission Worker role.

Purpose and Objectives:
To work closely with the District Treasurer and District Staff to support the finance function of the London District of the Methodist Church. This includes supporting and advising on appropriate financial controls, budgeting and reporting. To support the District Treasurer and the District Finance Resource Group, in advising circuits on financial policies and procedures to enable them to deliver on their mission.
Time commitment:
A flexible approach is required in order to provide support and guidance for the District, circuits and churches.
Main Responsibilities:
-
Deputise for the District Treasurer, when required, in reporting to the London District Council and District Synod of the Methodist Church on the financial health of the London District;
-
Draft management accounting reports in liaison with the District Finance and Admin Officer.

Be an active member of the District Finance Resource Group (FRG), facilitating its work in providing guidance to Circuits and Churches in the London District of the Methodist Church, and to take minutes of its meetings and maintain an Actions Log;

Working with the District Treasurer, implement & monitor sound financial procedures, systems & controls (in liaison with the District Finance & Admin Officer);

Support the completion of the District’s Annual Accounts by working with the District Finance & Admin Officer, District Treasurer and the District’s Auditor (when and where appropriate), and ensure the London District’s annual accounts are prepared in compliance with the current appropriate Methodist Standard Form of accounts and Charities SORP, working to implement any changes as advised by the auditors.

Work with the District Finance & Admin Officer to ensure all District grants are paid and monitored in accordance with their respective grant panel / committee decisions, including attendance at DAF (District Advance Fund) Panel to report on available funds;

To act as the District’s CDiM (Continuing Development in Ministry) Secretary by receiving applications from Ministers across the District for grants towards study or training and seek approval for these in line with District processes; actively promoting the grant amongst the District; monitoring and reporting on funds available as required; receive reports from those who have been provided with grants; to report on the activities of the work of CDiM at the Authorised Ministries Commission meetings throughout the year (as advised) and to the Synod via the District Annual Report.

The group is convened by the District Treasurer and seeks to offer support and advice to the District & Circuits in the areas of:

Finding treasurers, independent examiners and accounting support

Getting accounts in order

Training of church and circuit officers in Finance matters
Time commitment:
4/5 meetings per year, but flexibility in time to contribute and offer assistance on an ad hoc basis can be discussed with the District Treasurer.
Main Responsibilities:

Regularly attend Finance Group meetings and be prepared to attend other meetings as appropriate with the District Treasurer or other members of the Finance Group;
-
To work with and support the District Treasurer on areas of concern as required;
-
Be prepared to become involved with finance issues at all levels within the District, specifically assisting circuits and churches develop and sustain good financial practice; assisting with training needs in support of the District Treasurer;

Support churches across the District to develop a culture of sound financial management;

To keep up to date with Connexional developments in the areas covered by the work of the District Finance Group.
