Aspens’ mission is to provide high-quality care and support to individuals on the autism spectrum and with learning disabilities; meeting their needs and aspirations and empowering them to learn and grow through an integrated network of services across the South-East.

We provide support and care to children, families and adults across Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Brighton and Hove, Surrey and the London Borough of Bexley. Our services include registered care homes; supported living; community outreach; day services, including pathways to employment; children and young people’s groups and support; specialist support; and free online support for families and carers across the South-East.

About the Role:

At Aspens, a highly regarded charity, we work across Kent and Sussex; supporting individuals with autistic spectrum conditions, learning disabilities and physical disabilities. We offer residential care, supporting living, day activities and a fantastic community outreach programme.

Working closely with people we support a key part of your role. Within our PBS services we need to ensure that there is a high level on understanding of each individual’s needs. Allowing us to ensure they are living the most independent and active life possible. Some of the people we support have specific guidelines in place that need to be followed, this allows them to understand their day and develop independent living skills, with limited distress to the individual.

Within our Aspens PBS services, we ensure that the PWS have access to the community, ensuring their personal wants and needs are met. As support workers, we need to ensure that the residents are fulfilling activities of their choice. This could be from going swimming or bike riding to completing their food shopping or visiting a castle. There are a variety of activities that the PWS and their support worker could be involved in.

Here at Aspens, we ensure that all staff members are competent in their roles. This includes training on and off of site, such as NAPPI. This training ensures that confidence is remained throughout behaviours that challenge- shouting, hitting, grabbing, throwing objects. We also allow staff to complete L3 accredited PBS qualifications, to help understand why behaviours could be presenting in a manor. Supervision is also completed regularly with your line manager; this allows everyone to discuss both strengths and area of improvement throughout the role. All of these ensures staff to remain confident throughout their role, allowing constant interaction with PWS.
