Paid Trainee Music Leaders (Sheffield)

Community Music Makers

Community Music Makers, the new home for the Singing In... choirs in North Sheffield, is a social enterprise dedicated to bringing people together through accessible, high-quality musical activities. Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, we are launching an exciting training programme to develop the next generation of music leaders. These 12 to 18 month long roles are perfect for early-career choral conductors or experienced singers looking to transition into leading community groups.

As a trainee, you will work with our 'Singing In...' choirs gaining real-world experience and access to on-the-job mentoring from our Creative Director, Kate Shipway. Funding is also available to access a professional weekend conductor training course. We aim for trainees to continue working with us as music leaders once the programme concludes as our team expands.

We are looking for friendly, supportive musicians who can read music and are committed to equality and diversity. While the ability to play an accompanying instrument is useful, it is not essential. Most importantly, you should be an empathetic listener with a sense of joy and the ability to foster a low-pressure environment where every singer feels welcome.

Successful candidates will need to be regularly available for sessions on Thursdays in Hillsborough or Fridays in Grenoside.
