NPQSENCO Assessor

Teach First is a charity that believes education is the
most powerful tool to help a child fulfil their potential.
We find and train teachers to work in the schools that
need them most, we equip school leaders with
evidence-led training, we support local teacher
training providers, and we plug education leaders
into supportive professional networks. We are a
community, working within the classroom and
beyond, to bring an end to educational inequality.
Because a child's future shouldn't depend on
their postcode.

The role

The rundown: Powerful school leadership is one of the
most important factors in a school’s success, and
therefore in teachers’ and children’s success.
We are incredibly proud to be one of the lead providers
who deliver National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) to
support school leaders at all levels and with the introduc-
tion of the NPQ SENCO, we need NPQ SENCO Asses-
sors to allow us to succeed in this process.

To pass their NPQ, programme members need to engage
with at least 90% of their course and pass one summative
assessment. The summative assessment task consists of
a written response to a school-based case study. We need
NPQ SENCO Assessors to assess these written respons-
es so we can award NPQ SENCO qualifications.

In your role as an NPQ assessor, you’ll be trained on how
we’re using a comparative judgement approach to ensure
our awarding is as robust and reliable as possible. You’ll
also learn how to use our systems to access assessment
scripts and be allocated your own portfolio to judge.

We will ensure that you have the tools, resources, and
everything you need to do this role well.

The detail: day-to-day work

• Complete our onboarding and training to ensure you are
confident to use our comparative judgment approach

• Complete a portfolio of comparative judgements to

assess NPQ participant responses

• Complete further training, if required, to ensure we’re

meeting DfE accuracy requirements

You’ll take ownership for:

• Committing to working within specified timeframes

• Ensuring you understand the relevant NPQ framework

• Making informed judgements related to your assigned

portfolio

• Escalating any technical or logistical issues to the NPQ
assessment team in a professional and timely manner

guidance

.
