We have an opportunity for a Lymphoedema Practitioner to join our Clinical Services providing support to people with Lymphoedema, their carers and healthcare professionals. Our aim is to enable people to live their life as fully as possible, preventing hospital admissions and enabling people to enjoy maximum independence and optimum quality of life.
At The Prince of Wales Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care in a supportive and respectful environment. Our 14-bed inpatient unit, located just minutes from Junction 32 of the M62 in Pontefract, also offers outpatient and community services, including our successful Lymphoedema clinic.
About the Role
As Lymphoedema Practitioner, you will provide specialist care to people in Wakefield and North Kirklees with lymphoedema, helping them maintain and/or improve their quality of life through a range of therapeutic actions and activities.
You will work independently predominantly in clinics across the community as part of the small Lymphoedema Team to support the development of the service and members of the clinical team.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing specialist lymphoedema assessment, treatment and ongoing management for patients with a range of complex needs.
- Developing individualised treatment and management plans in partnership with patients, their carers ad healthcare professionals.
- Providing specialist treatments including Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Simple Lymphatic Drainage, compression therapy and multi-layer lymphoedema bandaging.
- Working collaboratively across the multidisciplinary team and with other specialist services to ensure patients receive the best possible care.
- Supporting the development and improvement of the Lymphoedema Service, contributing to new and innovative approaches to care.
- Supporting education and development for patients, carers, healthcare professionals, students and colleagues.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrable experience as a nurse or allied health professional and hold relevant professional registration.
- Diploma in lymphoedema management incorporating intensive therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, MLLB (or willingness to work towards).
- Experience working independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
- Good patient communication, including with those with barriers to understanding.
- Understanding of safe practice environments and professional boundaries.
- Transferrable skills to support our Wellbeing team when deemed appropriate.
- A valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle to attend external clinics and community groups.
