Library and Learning Centre Officer, 0.7 FTE / 24.5 Hours per week (Fixed term until 9 October 2026)

As part of the Student Support Services Department within our Library, the post holder will contribute to the development and support and maintain the College’s Library Services. 

The post holder will contribute to the College planning process and will seek to ensure that the library services delivered by Glasgow Kelvin College are up-to-date and of high quality, and meet the needs of the College’s learners, communities, staff, and wider stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students and staff to access appropriate learning resources
  • Deliver desk duties to ensure a professional and effective customer focused service to the satisfaction of all users
  • Assist in providing a comprehensive, quality administrative service for the library including maintaining learning materials and course information
  • Assist in enhancing and maintaining digital learning platforms and deploying related materials.
  • Work with staff and students to develop and expand knowledge of digital resources
  • Assist with digital support to learners and help develop appropriate resources to support learners
  • Assist to support library users with subject enquiries, use of library services including software and equipment to ensure a professional service is offered ·
  • Assist to catalogue resources to ensure a high-quality service is offered to users ·
  • Assist with the delivery of inductions and user education ·
  • Assist in the creation of guides to promote engagement with library service
  • Post information and announcements for students and staff as appropriate
  • Support the Team Leader to maintain stock levels in relation to learning materials and course information
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures to ensure the effective operation of the library.
  • Work within the requirements of the Data Protection Act, Computer Misuse Act and other legislation related to the use of information technology.

General:

  • Keep abreast of current developments which may be relevant to the College’s activity and future direction
  • Promote and advance Equality and Diversity in all aspects of College operations
  • Undertake appropriate training and development as identified through the personal development review
  • Participate in self-evaluation activities in accordance with College procedures
  • Respect the confidentiality of matters relating to learners and staff
  • Understand your role and obligations in complying with the requirements of the regulatory framework for the College, both as a service provider and an employer, in particular the Data Protection Act, the UK General Data Protection Regulations and the Freedom of Information Act
  • Report any accidental or unlawful loss of personal data in accordance with the College Data Protection Policy
  • Ensure the Health and Safety of staff and students in all aspects of College activity by exercising a duty of care for personal health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions
  • Comply with all role specific training and all compulsory training provided by the College, for example Health and Safety, equality and diversity, etc; and
  • Carry out any other duty commensurate with the post as required by the Vice Principal or the Principal.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Qualifications:

  • Educated to HNC (SCQF Level 7) or equivalent or alternatively possess relevant experience; and
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.

Knowledge:

Demonstrable knowledge of

  • Information Services;
  • Library Services; or
  • Digital Platforms

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with learners and staff
  • Ability to initiate and support innovation and promote change
  • Ability to deliver effective and responsive information and flexible learning support services

Experience:

  • Experience of Developing innovative services
  • Working with a range of education/lifelong learning services; and
  • Partnership working.
