Are you a skilled tradesperson with a natural knack for leadership? We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Lead Maintenance Engineer to ensure our school environments remain safe, compliant, and inspiring for staff, pupils, and visitors alike.
In this pivotal role, you will balance hands-on building maintenance across two distinct Trust sites with the leadership of a dedicated team of six Maintenance Engineers and Decorators. Partnering closely with the Estates Manager, you will provide the technical direction, task prioritisation, and mentorship needed to keep our operations running efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities- Team Leadership & Operations:Lead, organise, and develop a 6-person maintenance team, managing daily task allocation, training, and contractor supervision across multiple sites.
- Facilities & Asset Management:Oversee and execute hands-on building repairs (fabric, HVAC, utilities, and access systems) while managing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and small project planning.
- Safety & Compliance:Cultivate a secure working environment by managing risk assessments, ensuring strict regulatory compliance, and proactively resolving building hazards.
- Proven Team Leadership:Experience leading, motivating, and organising a multidisciplinary maintenance team, including task allocation and contractor supervision.
- Broad Technical Expertise:A strong trade background with versatile hands-on skills (carpentry, plumbing, HVAC) to execute repairs and manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
- Compliance & Problem-Solving Focus:Robust knowledge of modern Health & Safety/COSHH regulations, paired with excellent troubleshooting skills and a flexible, customer-focused approach.
This is a Full Time, Permanent position, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year consisting of 07:30 - 16:30, Monday - Friday with an unpaid one hour break per day.
Location:The position is based between the Senior School in Upper Dicker and the Prep School in Eastbourne.Offering an attractive salary of £35,000 - £38,000 per annum
