ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Technical Services Department provide specialist expertise across the Science Museums galleries, exhibitions and public events spaces. Covering on- gallery AV, digital and IT design and long -term maintenance support, the Digital Exhibit Team supports an ambitious programme of activities and high - quality visitor experiences.
In this role you will lead an operationa l maintenance team, ensuring galleries and exhibits are performing, and responding to reactive issues. As well as day to day operations, you will deliver a programme of planned maintenance, looking ahead at future investment needs and lead on improvements to interactive exhibits and key infrastructure with security at the forefront.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
• Line manages 4 Digital Exhibit Technicians, planning their daily activities to ensure the operational needs of the department are covered, building performance and training development plans.
• Leading on AV, digital and IT improvement works for galleries, identifying impactful areas for improvement and effectively utilising expertise within the team to deliver.
• Writing and delivering a planned maintenance schedule for gallery systems, developing lifecycle management plans and collaborate on the implementation of effective asset management.
• Working closely with the Systems Design team to ensure new technology is fit for purpose and maintainable.
• Reviewing and producing technical documentation for both new and legacy galleries ensuring information is up to date.
• Reviewing and writing Health & Safety processes to ensure operational work is planned with safety in mind.
• Carrying out a share of gallery “switch - on” duties, including diagnosing and repairing exhibits, conducting safety checks and ensuring the galleries are ready for visitors.
• Working closely with digital and technology teams across the group to share best practices and coordinate joint initiatives.
• Champion health and safety across all activities, setting clear expectations, promoting best practice and supporting a positive safety culture.
• Working as part of a wider operational team covering an onsite 7:30am 7-day rota, working 1 in 3 weekends and providing occasional out of hours support.
• Continuously demonstrate inclusive behaviours, valuing everyone’s contribution, and promoting a culture of openness

You may be required to participate in SMG’s incident response and business continuity arrangements, helping us ensure the organisation’s preparedness and resilience.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:
• Thorough knowledge and proven experience working with a wide range of AV hardware and systems.
• S trong level of ICT literacy with experience working with Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.
• Practical experience of AV distribution over IP systems, such as NDI or Dante.
• Practical experience of working with AV control systems, such as Q - SYS or Crestron.
Experience planning and delivering small projects.
• Great people skills, be comfortable supervising small teams and contractor works.
• S trong written skills, able to produce written reports and technical documentation.
• A willingness to uphold high standards of health and safety practice

SOME THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW :
• The shifts are mainly 07 :30 to 15 :45, with some between 10 :00 to 18 :15. One in three weekends working and a share in Bank holidays.
Evening work will be required ad hoc to support Museum events.
• Occasional visits to other SMG sites may be required to support national projects.
