Salary:£15,736.50About the RoleWe’re looking for a friendly, proactive Kitchen Assistant to join our busy Community Café team. This is a hands-on role where you’ll help prepare and serve simple, high-quality meals while delivering excellent customer service to all café users.
You’ll play a key role in creating a welcoming environment, supporting volunteers, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the café.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and cook a range of meals (e.g. breakfasts, soups, salads, sandwiches, daily specials, desserts)
- Make and serve hot and cold drinks
- Take customer orders, handle payments, and operate the till
- Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen and service area, including washing dishes and clearing tables
- Support the smooth running of the café, including covering for the Café Manager when required
- Assist with stock control and ordering
- Provide friendly, helpful customer service to all visitors
- Support and work alongside volunteers
- Help deliver catering for events, buffets, and functions
- Follow food hygiene, allergen, and health & safety standards at all times
- Complete required documentation (e.g. cleaning schedules, stock sheets, cash handling)
- Previous experience in catering and customer service
- Good numeracy skills and experience handling cash/tills
- Strong understanding of food hygiene and health & safety
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to stay calm and organised in a busy environment
- A positive, “can-do” attitude with a team-focused approach
- Food Hygiene Level 2 certification
- Emergency First Aid qualification
- Experience working with volunteers or within the community/charity sector
