Kennel & Cattery Assistant – Bank Staff / Zero Hours

Are you passionate about animal welfare and looking for a hands-on role where no two days are the same? Teckels Animal Sanctuaries is looking for dedicated people to join our kennel and cattery team on a bank staff basis.

About the role

This is a bank staff (zero hours) position, with work expected to be around 2–3 days per week. You’ll be a key part of our team, helping to care for the cats and dogs in our centre as we work to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals in need.

Day to day, you’ll be involved in all aspects of animal care, from daily husbandry and feeding to exercising, enrichment and basic grooming. You’ll also play an important role in working with our behaviour team, supporting training programmes, and helping potential adopters find their perfect match. On the boarding side, you’ll assist with our cat and dog boarding clients on site.

What we’re looking for

We need someone who is hardworking, compassionate, and comfortable working in a hands-on, outdoor environment. You should be confident handling dogs of all sizes as well as cats, and be able to work well both within a team and independently.

You’ll need either previous experience working in a kennel or animal environment, or a relevant animal-related qualification. Experience with Microsoft Office and data entry is also required.

This role does involve physical work, including walking, lifting and working outdoors in all weather. You’ll also need good emotional resilience, as animal rescue work can be emotive at times.

Working hours and shifts

Shifts are 7am–4.30pm and 10am–7pm. The role includes some weekend and evening shifts, plus overnight cover (sleeping shift) on average once per week, with on-site accommodation provided.

This is a fixed-term position, starting at the end of May 2026 for 5 months.
