Volunteer role: Journal Social Media Editor (JSME) for FEMS Microbiology Ecology

We are looking for a new volunteer Journal Social Media Editor (JSME). In this role, you will read the latest microbiological research published in FEMS Microbiology Ecology and help communicate it to our community through engaging social media posts on X, Bluesky, and Facebook, as well as occasional blog content and other science communication activities.

This role is to be performed remotely: online and by email. You will get the chance to develop social media and science communications skills. No experience is necessary (although is desirable), there is plenty of time to learn and develop while volunteering with us.

You will work closely with the other JSMEs and staff at the FEMS Office who will provide advice and training and a continued presence throughout your commitment.

The commitment involves regular social media posts (1–2 per week) for an initial duration of 12 months. There may also be opportunities to contribute to other promotional activities, such as blog writing or supporting ad hoc communications campaigns around awareness days and/or topical microbiology and science communication themes.

Please also do make contact if you have any questions about the role you want answered first.

This is not a paid position, and will not lead directly to any paid work with FEMS.
