IT Cloud Systems Engineer
IT Cloud Systems Engineer Salary: £46,938 - £50,961 per annum (Grade 10) Contract type: Full-time (36.5 hours per week), Permanent
The challenge
At WJEC, we contribute to our education communities by providing trusted qualifications and specialist support, to allow our learners the opportunity to reach their full potential. This is a fantastic chance to be part of an organisation that both encourages and enhances the minds of tomorrow.
WJEC is going through a major digital transformation, replacing legacy systems and delivering secure, reliable cloud services for staff and customers. Cloud platforms are central to this work; using Amazon Web Services (AWS) as our main cloud platform, whilst also using Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365 and IBM Cloud for specific services and workloads. This new role of IT Cloud Systems Engineer will be key to making sure these platforms stay secure, reliable, cost-effective and aligned with business needs.
The role
You will act as the technical authority and subject matter expert for cloud platforms, with primary responsibility for AWS and secondary responsibility for Azure and Microsoft 365. You will design, build, operate and continuously improve WJEC’s cloud environments, ensuring they meet best practice for security, resilience, performance, automation and cost optimisation.
You will work closely with colleagues across IT development, data integration, infrastructure, cyber security and support teams, providing expert guidance and hands‑on engineering. You will also collaborate with third‑party suppliers and support partners to ensure delivery of high‑quality cloud services aligned with organisational objectives.
About you
We’re keen to hear from individuals who enjoy collaborative roles and building positive working relationships across an organisation. They’ll have excellent IT skills and be able to demonstrate an ability to provide complex and/or novel technical solutions under time-pressure. You will have strong cloud engineering experience, be comfortable acting as a technical advisor, and be able to design and implement secure cloud solutions under time pressure while adhering to organisational policies and standards.
Benefits
At WJEC, we pride in being an inclusive and supportive place to work. We also offer a range of excellent benefits including: 25 days annual leave per year (in addition to 16 statutory / additional holidays) adjusted for parttime/compressed working patterns, free Welsh lessons, a generous pension scheme and numerous family friendly policies. A career with WJEC can be extremely rewarding and you will be encouraged throughout with great opportunities to develop your professional and personal skills.
WJEC operates a hybrid working model, enabling the successful candidate to split their time between WJEC offices and working at home, subject to business need. As such, applications are invited from individuals across the UK but please note that regular working from our Cardiff / Treforest offices will be required (occasionally at short notice). Whilst flexibility can be discussed, this team currently requires average office attendance of once per week. Welsh language skills are not essential but the willingness to learn is always valued.
If you would like to know more about this role, or about working at WJEC, please do not hesitate to contact our HR team (HR@wjec.co.uk), who will be more than happy to help.
