Internal Communications Officer

We're looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and creative communicator to help shape how we connect with and inspire our people. In this exciting role, you'll lead the delivery of engaging internal events, create compelling content and campaigns, and build a sense of community across the charity. You'll also support our colleague communication channels, including newsletters and our new intranet.
Working closely with the Internal Communications team and stakeholders from across Barnardo's, you'll deliver timely, high-quality communications using a range of channels and methods – making sure our colleagues feel informed, involved, and inspired every day.
This role is primarily home‑based, with monthly in‑person team days in London and occasional additional travel for events or departmental meetings.
The successful candidate will have experience of:
- Experience in internal or external communications within a complex organisation.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences.
- Experience using intranets, content management systems, and digital tools.
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders and cross-departmental teams.
- Experience planning and delivering engaging events (online and in-person).
- Knowledge of digital accessibility and inclusive communication best proactive.
- An eye for a great story – and the creativity to tell it across multiple formats.
- Experience of developing, delivering, and measuring communications plans.
- Experience of project management, meeting deadlines, and managing conflicting priorities.
- Worked with sensitive and confidential issues.

Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours. This role will operate on a 'Work from Anywhere' basis, meaning that you can work both from home and from an office 'hub' that's nearest to where you live. The Internal Communications team meets in-person once a month in London, and there will be other in-person opportunities around the UK for department-wide away days, and events, throughout the year.
Barnardo's require colleagues to be UK residents, based in the UK and to complete their roles from within the UK (with the exception of colleagues providing Barnardo's services in Jersey and colleagues who live in the Republic of Ireland providing services in Northern Ireland)
