Scope of Work

Support International Medical Corps (IMC)'s global and country-level monitoring, evaluation, and learning efforts through a series of small projects based on the intern's skills and thematic interests as well as evolving organizational priorities. Illustrative project areas include:

1) Outcome indicator data management and reporting — Support the cleaning, analysis, and visualization of standard outcome indicator data; contribute to learning documentation; and, depending on skillset, assist in developing methods for strengthening attribution (e.g., contribution analysis, prospective mini-studies).
2) Secondary data re-analysis — Conduct re-analysis of existing global or country-specific datasets to generate new insights. Examples include examining cross-country and year-over-year trends in beneficiaries reached by sector, or re-analyzing multi-year, multi-sector needs assessment data to address targeted programmatic questions.
3) Desk research for program design or implementation — Carry out a structured literature or evidence review on a topic relevant to an active or upcoming program. For example, reviewing best practices in health system strengthening and sustainability planning for program handovers.
4) Case study development — Draft a case study for knowledge management and organizational learning purposes, focusing on less commonly documented interventions that are not well captured in standard donor reporting, e.g., health information systems strengthening initiatives.

The student will:
• Gain practical understanding of how M&E systems operate within a humanitarian organization, including indicator frameworks, reporting cycles, and data use for decision-making
• Develop or strengthen technical skills in data management, analysis, and visualization using relevant software (e.g., Excel, R, Python, Power BI)
• Build familiarity with humanitarian program cycle management, including needs assessments, program design, monitoring, and learning
• Strengthen skills in evidence synthesis, technical writing, and translating data into actionable recommendations

Minimum qualifications

• Current graduate student in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, international development, social sciences, or a related field.
• Demonstrated interest in monitoring, evaluation, research, or humanitarian programming, with strong attention to detail, demonstrated writing skills, and ability to organize, analyze, and synthesize information.
• Basic proficiency in Excel required; background in academic, work, or internship experience applying statistical methods to real-world data is preferred. Familiarity with one or more data analysis or visualization tools such as R, Python, Power BI, or similar is an asset.
