Intern, Conflict, Security and Development Programme (CSDP)
Hours: 20 hours per week
Contract: Fixed-term (six weeks)

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a defence and security think tank that has a deep understanding of regional geopolitics and geo-economics in a global context. Its international researchers provide best-in-class, independent and impartial analysis and offer insights on strategic challenges and priorities to governments and the private sector. It is expert at bringing together national leaders and senior policymakers in foreign policy, defence and security; promoting dialogue; and facilitating effective and influential bilateral and multilateral consultations.
An opportunity has arisen for a research internship in the Conflict, Security and Development Programme.
Responsibilities
- Provide research support on projects including, but not limited to, the Armed Conflict Survey, illicit economies, criminal dynamics and conflict monitoring.
- Provide support for workshops, roundtables, webinars and other events.
- Provide support on data collection, manipulation and proof-reading.
- Assist with literature reviews, background research, and fact-checking to support ongoing research projects.
- Contribute to the preparation of charts, maps and other visual materials for publications and presentations.
Requirements
The successful candidate will:
- Be working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the field of international relations, security, economics, or other relevant topics.
- Have quantitative skills and be comfortable and interested to work with data. Experience working with spreadsheets or datasets is desirable.
- Have demonstrable ability to write to high standards of English; Spanish and French are an asset.
- Have excellent attention to detail and be able to work accurately with data and written material.
- Be able to begin the role as soon as possible.
