The International Institute for Strategic Studies is looking to recruit a Graphic Designer to work with the Design department. This position will report to the Head of Design.
- Lead in typesetting across multiple publications and create presentations.
- Design assets and artwork for use across our social and digital channels. Proof files and send them to print as required.
- Work with researchers to design stimulating graphics, transforming data sets into exciting content.
- Support with the research and implementation of new tools, and help develop our digital style guide.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in design - digital, graphic or product.
- Excellent knowledge and experience using Adobe Creative Suite (AfterEffects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Strong skills in storyboarding creative narratives, producing proof of concept visuals, layout, typography, and infographic creation demonstrated through your portfolio.
- A thorough understanding of social media platforms and their visual language.
- Portfolio showing sharp, clean approaches to animation and data visualisation across different devices.
- Design experience implementing 'digital-first' solutions from start to end.
- Comfortable experimenting with and learning how to use new software and other tools.
- Previous experience working for clients in the political, government, or non-profit sector and an interest in and understanding of security and geopolitical issues.
- Skills and passion to work with existing in-house print designers and in-house data development/html coding role.
- An understanding of designing for new digital projects, working with in-house teams on UI and producing relevant digital assets.

Due to growth in the IISS-Europe office and the success and expansion of our Defence Technology and Future Conflict programme, the current Executive Director will be relocating to the London office. The Institute is therefore seeking to appoint an energetic, senior figure as its Executive Director to lead IISS–Europe. The post will be available from 1st July 2026. As Executive Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and developing the IISS–Europe office and will be a member of the IISS Directing Staff.
Candidates for the post should have substantial working experience relevant to European security affairs, whether in the expert community, government, the media or business. They should ideally have experience of institutional leadership and success in fundraising, diplomatic skills, as well as a strong record of policy-relevant publication. They should be able confidently to conduct discussions with the highest levels of government and business, while at the same time leading and working closely with the diverse, international team of research and operational staff at IISS.
Candidates must be fully competent in spoken and written English and German. The successful candidate should hold a postgraduate degree and, ideally, already have experience of living and working in Germany or elsewhere in Europe.

Our Technology Department enables the Institute’s research, publications and convening power through secure, reliable digital services and the delivery of new digital products—including emerging capabilities in data, analytics and AI.
We are seeking a Project Coordinator to provide high-quality project administration and delivery support across a portfolio of new digital initiatives, including AI-enabled tools, data-driven platforms and strategic internal working groups. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is highly organised, confident in stakeholder engagement, and comfortable working across multiple workstreams at pace. You will work closely with project managers and senior colleagues in Technology and partner departments, ensuring that project governance is well-run, documentation is current, and working groups operate smoothly.
- Project administration - Assist the project manager and senior staff with administration such as room bookings, maintaining meeting agendas and minutes. Coordinate logistics for in-person and virtual meetings, manage attendee lists, circulate materials, capture actions and follow-ups, and maintain document control.
- Project management support - Assist the project manager by contributing to and maintaining project plans, RAID logs and other project documents. Support preparation for governance meetings, maintain delivery trackers and status updates, and track decisions, actions and changes.
- Business analysis support - Assist the project manager by contributing to the creation and maintenance of requirements documents. Contribute to and assist with the running of requirements workshops or similar meetings, including organising sessions, capturing outputs, and maintaining traceability between requirements and delivery.
- Working group support - Provide administrative support to IISS working groups around projects and strategic initiatives that operate regular meetings, monthly newsletters and RAID logs. Coordinate meeting cadence, agendas and minutes; maintain action and RAID logs; collate inputs for monthly updates; and ensure consistent communications and record-keeping.
- Proven experience in a project support, project coordination, PMO, operations or similar role.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written communication, including minute-taking and producing clear action summaries.
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Exposure to digital projects (web platforms, data projects, AI tools, software delivery).
- Familiarity with common project artefacts and delivery methods (RAID, plans, Agile/Waterfall basics).
- Experience supporting workshops (requirements, discovery, stakeholder sessions).
- Interest in technology, AI, or digital transformation within research and publishing environments.
