Join us and help create safe, supportive homes

We’re excited to be growing our Housing Team and are looking for a Housing Team Leader to join us at an important and positive time of development.

This newly created role is part of a wider investment in our housing services and plays a vital part in delivering high‑quality, compliant supported housing services for people with learning disabilities. If you’re an experienced housing professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for quality, inclusion, and tenant wellbeing, we’d love to hear from you.

This is a full-time, permanent role (37.5 hours per week), primarily home-based, with travel to Mencap offices and sites as required.

About the role

As the Housing Team Leader, you’ll play a pivotal part in delivering high-quality housing management services within our supported living settings.  Working closely to supervise, support and coach the housing officers and reporting to the Head of Housing, you’ll help keep services running smoothly while building strong relationships with tenants, colleagues, and external partners.

This is a varied and rewarding role that offers flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to contribute to meaningful outcomes for people with learning disabilities.

As a Housing Team Leader, you’ll provide supervision management, support, and coaching to a team of Housing Officers delivering locality‑based housing management services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

You’ll be responsible for overseeing performance, quality, and compliance across services, while also leading on complex housing cases and supporting the team to resolve issues effectively. Working closely with care and support colleagues and external partners, you’ll help ensure our homes and communities are safe, well‑managed, and welcoming.

This role supports delivery of the Property sub-strategy and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to people’s lives while contributing to Mencap’s mission and values.

What you’ll be doing

  • Team leadership and development – supervising the Housing Officers, promoting a high‑performing, customer‑focused culture.
  • Tenancy management and case oversight – overseeing the delivery of all core tenancy management functions, ensuring compliance is achieved.
  • Partnership working and service delivery – building strong collaborative relationships with internal teams, external agencies, tenants, families, and advocates.
  • Property, estates, and financial oversight - ensure effective contract management and professional relationships with suppliers.
  • Compliance and safeguarding - ensure all services comply with current housing legislation, regulatory standards, and internal policies.
  • Feedback management - oversee customer feedback, including responding to complaints and implementing service improvements.

What we’re looking for

  • Significant experience in housing management, including tenancy enforcement and complex casework
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and support teams
  • Strong understanding of housing legislation, compliance, and safeguarding
  • Excellent communication, decision‑making, and organisational skills
  • A values‑driven approach and commitment to inclusive, person‑centred services
  •  Experience working with people with learning disabilities or within supported housing is highly desirable.

What we offer

  • A leadership role where your work genuinely makes a difference
  • Flexible, mobile working with variety and autonomy
  • The opportunity to shape and improve a growing housing service
  • Supportive colleagues and a values‑led organisational culture
  • The opportunity to help create safe homes and sustainable communities
  • The chance to be part of an evolving service with a strong social purpose

If you’re committed, proactive, and keen to make a real difference by helping create safe and supportive homes, we’d love to hear from you.

Please apply as soon as possible, as we may close the vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview, which may include a competency-based assessment.  Interviews may be held in person or via Microsoft Teams.
