About Autism Plus
Autism Plus are a leading Yorkshire Charity supporting adults and young people with autism, learning disabilities, mental health conditions and complex needs.

In 1986 the Charity was created by a group of parents looking for the very best support for their children who were about to leave a specialist school. Once they reached the age of 17, they found there was little or no support. The belief set by our founding parents, to empower more people to live independent, fulfilling lives remains our focus today.

We employ over 350 people across the north of England in care support services, employment support and social enterprise businesses.

About the Role: Hours: 37.5 Hours Per WeekLocation: Fieldside Court, Doncaster. Travel to other units across Yorkshire, therefor drivers license and vehicle are needed.

Autism Plus is looking for a new Health and Safety Lead to be the organisations lead competent person and to support managers comply with their duties under the Health and Safety Law.

Key Responsibilities (include, but are not limited too):

  • To ensure that Autism Plus complies with current Health and Safety legislation, CQC, H&S requirements and approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to service provision, employees and others affected by our work
  • Develop, monitor, continuously review and communicate the Autism Plus Health and Safety Policy, to ensure it remains relevant and is kept up to date with any changes in legislation.
  • Prepare and carry out, where necessary, health and safety and fire risk assessments and advise on actions that may be required.
  • Monitor accident information and ensure suitable investigations are carried out and recommended improvements implemented.
  • Maintain an accurate and up to date record of accident statistics.
  • Establish and deliver a structured programme of in-house training on a range of safety topics.
  • Performance reviews and audits of the whole health and safety management system following the Health and Safety Executives ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ approach to managing health and safety
  • Work closely with our externally appointed competent Risk Management persons to further the strategic and operational health and safety aims and objectives of organisation.
  • Health and safety planning, including goal setting with short and long term realistic objectives, deciding priorities and establishing adequate systems and performance standards.
  • Provide professional support and advice to Senior Management and the GEMs team in respect of health and safety risks and generating action plans to ensure compliance across the organisation in accordance to the Governance Policy and Procedure
  • To contribute to the introduction of the audit calendar and create appropriate audit tools to support the development of governance systems
  • To work alongside Registered Managers to improve service provision following recommendations from audits or investigations into accidents, incidents, complaints or matters raised by any person working or living/receiving care or their advocates at the service
