We are currently recruiting for our new Head Physiotherapist (First Team).

The Head Physiotherapist is responsible for the delivery and management of physiotherapy services within the professional football club. This includes injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of players, ensuring optimal availability and performance throughout the season.
Key Relationships will be with

- External Medical Providers and Specialists
Clinical Leadership & Service Delivery
- Lead the physiotherapy provision for the first team and wider club including supporting the academy and women’s team
- Deliver high-quality assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries
- Develop and implement evidence-based rehabilitation programmes tailored to individual players
- To arrange pre-signing medicals at the discretion of the club
- To arrange annual cardiac screenings, blood tests and neurocognitive screenings for all professional players and assist with academy screenings
- Design and deliver injury prevention strategies in collaboration with sports science staff
- Monitor player loading and contribute to performance planning
- Support return-to-play decisions through objective testing and clinical reasoning
- Provide physiotherapy support at all training sessions and competitive fixtures
- Deliver immediate pitch-side assessment and treatment of injuries
- Ensure compliance with all competition medical regulations and emergency protocols
- To ensure a comprehensive EAP handover is completed to opposition medical staff and paramedics at home fixtures
- Work closely with the coaching staff, performance team and club stakeholders
- Provide regular updates on player status, rehabilitation progress, and availability to management and club stakeholders
- Liaise with external consultants and specialists including referring for imaging and consultations when required
- Accompany players when possible, to specialists appointments including surgery if possible
- Maintain accurate, confidential medical records
- Ensure compliance with all relevant medical, legal, and safeguarding standards
- Contribute to departmental audits, CPD, and best practice development
- Notifying the clubs health provider of all external consultants and specialists appointments
- Manage a medical budget including daily supplies, player transport, health insurance premiums and CPD
- Work flexibly as and when required to meet the needs of the club
- Be aware of the PUFC policies, procedures & best practise so that concerns of non-compliance can be raised
- Work within the company policies and processes. Seek advice & guidance if required ensuring employees and processes work seamlessly together
- Attend meetings, training and professional updating as and when required
- To adhere to existing working practices, methods, procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and to respond positively to new and alternative systems.
- To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines
- Adhere to and support the club’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Health and Safety and Safeguarding policies.
- Show a willingness to build relationships internally and externally to support the Club’s progression on and off the pitch.

- Degree in Physiotherapy (BSc or MSc)
- Full membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Qualified in ATMMiF (or equivalent pitch-side emergency care certification)
- Postgraduate qualification in Sports Physiotherapy or related field (desirable)
- 3 years+ experience working in elite or professional sport, ideally football
- Proven experience in musculoskeletal injury management and rehabilitation
- Experience working within and leading a multidisciplinary performance team
- Excellent clinical reasoning and hands-on treatment skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, team environment
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Experience in a professional football club environment at first team level
- Knowledge of sports science principles and load monitoring
- Involvement in research or continued professional development in sports physiotherapy/medicine
