We are seeking an experienced and inspirational Head of Clinical Services to join our senior leadership team.

This is a pivotal leadership role, supporting the Hospital Director in delivering outstanding clinical services and a robust clinical governance framework that ensures compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC), Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) and all relevant professional standards.

As a highly visible clinical leader, you will inspire and support multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care while championing continuous improvement, patient safety and excellence in patient experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious senior nurse or registered healthcare professional looking to influence strategy, shape culture and make a meaningful difference across our hospital services.

As Head of Clinical Services, you will:

  • Provide professional and operational leadership across all clinical services.
  • Support the Hospital Director in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
  • Lead and strengthen the hospital's clinical governance, quality improvement and patient safety agenda.
  • Ensure compliance with CQC, HIW, statutory requirements and national best practice.
  • Act as the hospital Safeguarding Lead in partnership with the Executive Director of Clinical Care and Acute Operations.
  • Lead on Infection Prevention and Control, Controlled Drugs governance and wider clinical assurance programmes.
  • Foster a positive culture of learning, innovation, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Lead incident investigations, complaints management and implementation of learning.
  • Develop effective relationships with consultants, senior leaders and external partners.
  • Support workforce planning, clinical education, succession planning and leadership development.
  • Lead on clinical audit, risk management and governance reporting.
  • Contribute to business planning, financial performance and service development.
  • Deputise for the Hospital Director as required.
  • Substantial experience as a Registered Nurse/Registered health care professional working within clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement
  • Experience of working closely with clinicians of varying seniority
  • Staff management from previous experience as a Head of Department
  • Knowledge and understanding of patient experience, involvement and feedback
  • Registered Nurse/Allied Health Care Professional with NMC/HCPC Registration
  • Experience of working closely with clinicians of varying seniority
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Care Quality Commission/Health Inspectorate Wales regulatory and inspection framework and assurance process

Sancta Maria is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built hospital located in Swansea's SA1 Waterfront area, opened in 2021. The site includes three fully equipped theatre suites, an inpatient ward, and day surgery unit.
