To deliver small repairs, maintenance works and minor adaptations within clients’ homes, supporting older and vulnerable individuals to live safely and independently.

Undertakes a range of minor repairs and adaptations within domestic settings following referrals from clients, NHS partners and other stakeholders. Operates independently on site, exercising judgement within agreed service parameters and funding guidelines.

Financial & Resource Responsibility

No direct budget accountability. Works within agreed NHS or service funding parameters and demonstrates awareness of cost considerations on a job-by-job basis.

People Responsibility

No formal line management responsibility.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Undertake a variety of small repairs and maintenance tasks (e.g. joinery, masonry, minor plumbing and minor electrical works) within clients’ homes
  • Install minor adaptations and temporary equipment, including ramps and specialist NHS equipment
  • Remove and decommission specialist or telecare equipment where required
  • Assess repair or adaptation requirements, agree scope of works with clients and/or Occupational Therapists, and complete works to agreed standards
  • Maintain effective and empathetic communication with clients and their families
  • Liaise with NHS Highland, Highland Council and internal colleagues to ensure coordinated service delivery
  • Drive and maintain the company vehicle allocated to the post in line with organisational procedures

Planning and Organising 

Typically works to a weekly schedule of allocated jobs, with flexibility to respond to urgent or changing client needs. Organises daily workload independently within agreed priorities.

Decision-Making/Use of Judgement

Exercises considerable discretion on-site when determining practical solutions within agreed service parameters. Escalates unusual, high-risk or complex issues to the line manager.

Problem Solving & Complexity

Regularly resolves practical, site-based issues where property layouts and client circumstances vary. Most problems are familiar and technical in nature. Errors are generally correctable but could impact client safety or organisational reputation.

Essential:

• Practical experience in general maintenance and repair (e.g. joinery, plumbing, minor electrical works and fittings)

• Ability to use a full range of hand and power tools safely and effectively

• Knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work

• Strong problem-solving and time management skills

• Ability to communicate sensitively and empathetically with vulnerable clients

• Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

• Experience working with older people, disabled individuals or those with mental health conditions

• Relevant trade qualification
