Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) provides life-saving emergency relief and longer-term medical care to some of the most vulnerable and excluded communities around the world. As an independent medical humanitarian organisation, we deliver care based only on need, regardless of ethnic origin, gender, religion or political affiliation. Our medical humanitarian projects are supported by offices in 44 countries, including the UK and Ireland. These teams recruit staff, organise fundraising, and raise awareness on the humanitarian crises our colleagues are witnessing, as well as running different and diverse support activities. MSF offices are spread across Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa and Australasia.

At MSF UK/IE, we support MSF's operations by building relationships with our supporters, increasing awareness of our work, raising funds, providing specialist medical expertise, ensuring MSF staff have access to relevant higher education programmes, catalysing change on medical humanitarian issues, and recruiting field staff.

Position

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Mon-Fri

Duration: 12-months FTC

Location: London - 4 days per week (including Wednesdays - 80% in office attendance mandatory)

Salary: £28,860 per annum (London Living Wage) | Salary is offered in line with our pay framework and typically starts at the entry point of the band. Salary increases are considered annually and are subject to our appraisal and performance review process.

Job Purpose:

Geographical Information System (GIS), mapping, and spatial analysis plays an important role in MSF medical responses.

There are a wide variety of tasks which will vary depending on workload and skills available, so the post holder needs to be flexible.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• Passion for maps and data.
• A GIS or equivalent degree and/or relevant experience.
• Genuine interest in the humanitarian sector and commitment to MSF’s values (previous experiences with NGOs is desirable).
• Strong interest in epidemiology and public health.
• Demonstrable interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
• A can-do attitude and ability to work independently and autonomously.
• Fluency in written and spoken English (other languages, especially French, are an advantage).
• Demonstrable knowledge and experience working with QGIS, ArcGIS, Kobo, Osmand, and related software/tools, and the willingness to learn new software and tools. Knowledge of and/or experience working with satellite imagery in GIS.
• Experience in the practical use of personal IT equipment and Microsoft Office 365 suite. The ability to effectively collaborate and communicate within a hybrid working environment utilising Teams, SharePoint, One Drive and Yammer.
