Freelance Editor
The Development and Alumni Relations Office at Jesus College, Cambridge are looking to recruit a Freelance Editor to manage the production of the College’s two main publications, the Annual Report and The Jesuan magazine, over an estimated 200 hours.
The Annual Report (anticipated 145 hours) is an important historical and social document of the life of the College, typically distributed in November reflecting on the previous academic year. The Jesuan magazine (anticipated 55 hours) is the annual alumni magazine, typically distributed in the Spring.
In collaboration with the Director of Development and Alumni Relations and the College’s Development Committee, the post holder will determine an overarching theme for the publications. Main areas of responsibility will be (but are not limited to),
- Project manage the entire periodical.
- Commission and edit, up to fourteen feature articles from Fellows, students, alumni, staff members, with deadlines, running order and cross headings by end July, with final editing by mid-September.
- Commission or write Obituaries of Fellows, Emeritus Fellows, former Fellows, and Honorary Fellows and oversee collation of alumni obituaries written by the Obituaries Editor.
- Work in partnership with the Director of Development and Alumni Relations to produce an annual, newsy alumni magazine reflecting items of interest to the alumni community.
- Provide oversight and editorial expertise to updates from the Master, students, new Fellows, JCSU/MCR, IF, Operations etc.
- Liaise with JDAR on the production: layouts, picture searches and origination, design, provision of proofs for individual articles and sections at various stages; liaison with the designer and printer up to final publication.
