Could you help someone communicate with the world around them?

Here at Sense, we support people with complex disabilities to live the life they choose. We're looking for a Support Worker to join our team at Newton Court in Paston, Peterborough for a permanent role working 30 hours per week on a two-week rota including mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, paying £13.00 per hour.

A BSL Level 1 or 2 qualification is essential for this role, as is a full UK driving licence. You'll be supporting someone with complex communication and mobility needs to live as independently as possible, both at home and out in the community.

Please note: this post is restricted to female applicants. This is a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Confident using BSL to communicate
  • Comfortable supporting people with mobility needs including walking, guiding, and wheelchair use
  • Able to work on their own initiative and use good judgement when working independently
  • Warm, caring, and empathetic
  • Willing to attend training and develop in their role

This role might include supporting people with:

  • Getting out into the community for shopping, gym, swimming, and social activities
  • Accessing services such as GP surgeries, banks, and leisure facilities
  • Personal care and hygiene
  • Finances and medication
  • Building and maintaining independence at home and in the community
