Position

The Estates Compliance Manager is a key role within the Heritage and Estates Directorate, responsible for the operational leadership of health, safety, security and estate compliance across the College estate. Reporting to the Director of Heritage and Estates, the postholder will lead the delivery of compliance activity across a complex, historically important, and high profile estate, ensuring that statutory requirements, audit actions and safe working practices are embedded in day to day operations.

This is a role with real impact. The work directly supports a safe, secure and well managed environment for staff, members and visitors, and underpins the College’s ability to deliver its wider mission. The role provides direct line management to the Property Operations Assistants and Housekeeping teams, ensuring that compliance requirements are consistently delivered through front line operational activity.

This is a visible, hands on role requiring regular presence across the estate and close working with internal teams, contractors and external advisers.

Requirements

Key responsibilities include

  • Leading the day to day delivery of health, safety, security and compliance across the estate
  • Translating audits, inspections and professional advice into clear, prioritised action plans
  • Coordinating and tracking compliance actions through to completion
  • Managing physical security arrangements including access control, CCTV and contractor support
  • Supporting delivery of Duty to Protect requirements
  • Providing clear reporting and assurance on compliance performance and risk

There may be a requirement to work outside normal working hours on occasion and to travel to the College’s Birmingham Campus for agreed projects and meetings.

Experience/Qualifications/Key Skills 

This is an opportunity for an experienced and confident operational manager with a strong background in compliance, estates or facilities management.

You will have:

  • Practical experience in health and safety, compliance, facilities or a related operational environment
  • Experience managing teams and delivering operational services
  • Experience coordinating audits, inspections or compliance action plans
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • The ability to interpret professional advice and translate it into practical delivery
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders
  • Good IT skills, including use of systems for tracking actions and reporting

A health and safety qualification such as NEBOSH or equivalent experience is essential, as is experience working in a complex or public facing estate.
