Emerging Audio Visual (AV) Artist
Red Oak Theatre | Sherman Theatre, Cardiff
About the Production
Sian De Bergerac is a bold new play by Welsh writer Emma Cooney, directed by Samantha Jones, premiering at Sherman Theatre, Cardiff in Autumn 2026. AV design is central to the world of this production — the show lives at the intersection of live performance, screen culture and digital intimacy, and the AV is not decorative but dramaturgical: it is part of how the story is told.
The Opportunity
We are offering a supported role for an emerging AV artist at the heart of Sian De Bergerac. This is a genuine creative collaboration and professional development opportunity — not an assistant role — and is designed to give a talented emerging practitioner meaningful, credited involvement across the full arc of the production's development.
Crucially, this role begins before rehearsals. The emerging AV artist will attend three engagement workshops with Our Streets Now — workshops whose ideas and conversations will directly shape the AV world of the show. The emerging AV artist's role is to be present in those rooms, absorb what emerges, and act as a vital creative bridge between that community-rooted process and the Lead AV Designer.
The production also has an Associate AV Artist who will lead on content creation. The emerging AV artist will work closely alongside them, gaining hands-on experience of professional AV content production in a live performance context. The role also connects directly with our Digital Creative Marketing practitioner — helping to translate the visual and thematic world developed through the AV design into content for the show's marketing campaign.
This is a richly connected role, sitting at the intersection of community engagement, AV design and digital marketing — and offering a genuinely unusual breadth of creative experience.
The role will involve
- Attending 3 engagement workshops with Our Streets Now, feeding insights and ideas into the AV design process
- Acting as a creative bridge between the engagement workshops and the Lead AV Designer
- Working closely with the Associate AV Artist on AV content creation throughout the production
- Collaborating with the Digital Creative Marketing practitioner to translate the AV world of the show into marketing content
- Attendance at key rehearsal and production week dates

We are looking for
- An emerging AV artist — this opportunity is aimed at those early in their practice
- Interest in or experience of live performance and/or theatre-making
- Curiosity and creative ambition
- Technical capability across AV software and hardware — exact tools/platforms are open
- Ability to work collaboratively and responsively within a fast-moving creative process
- Wales-based applicants are particularly encouraged, though not essential
