Education Governance and Operations Officer

The Old Cathedral School, Truro

Join our education team as our next Governance and Operations Officer and play a key role in shaping the strategic education landscape across the region.

This is an opportunity to influence, lead and make a lasting difference for children and young people through strong, values‑driven education governance.

What is the role?

You will play a pivotal role in supporting the Diocese’s vision to improve outcomes for all children and young people across Church of England schools, academies, federations and trusts. Working closely with the Diocesan Director of Education, the Diocesan Board of Education and key partners, the role provides strategic and operational leadership across governance, admissions, academisation, land and buildings, and compliance. You will strengthen governance structures, support and develop governors and trustees, ensure statutory and diocesan requirements are met, and act as a trusted link between schools, trusts, the diocese and external partners, contributing to effective decision‑making and confident, deeply Christian governance.

What are we looking for?

You will be an experienced, organised and credible professional with a strong understanding of the schools and academies landscape and a proven track record in governance, operations or education leadership. With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, confidence in advising senior leaders and boards, and the ability to design and lead training, you will build strong partnerships and handle sensitive or complex issues with professionalism. You will have up‑to‑date knowledge of governance, admissions and relevant education legislation, a commitment to safeguarding and inclusion, and a clear alignment with the values, ethos and mission of the Church of England and the Diocese.

Why join us?

  • We offer a role with genuine purpose and impact across the education landscape in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
  • We’re a professional and supportive team where your expertise is valued
  • Supportive and engaged staff in an organisation where your wellbeing matters
  • Varied work combining operational delivery with high‑level strategic insight
  • Hybrid and flexible working
  • Church of England pension scheme with 9-15% employer contributions
