Domestic Abuse Safe at Home Practitioner
Location: Bury
Salary: £27,500
Contract Type: Permanent
About Us
At The Calico Group, our purpose is clear: to make a real difference to people’s lives. Whether supporting individuals in recovery, helping communities thrive, or enabling employees to grow, we are committed to creating opportunities that transform lives.
We embrace diversity in all its forms and take pride in employing a workforce that reflects the rich and varied communities we serve. Your skills and experiences could make all the difference – join us to be part of something extraordinary.
Safenet delivers domestic abuse services across the North West of England, including refuges for women and children, safe houses for men, and community-based support. We provide trauma-informed, survivor-led services and work with partners to help people stay safe and rebuild their lives
The Opportunity
As a Domestic Abuse Safe at Home Practitioner, you will help women experiencing domestic abuse to feel safer in their own homes. You’ll deliver trauma-informed, survivor-led practical and emotional support alongside home security assessments and target hardening measures, working in partnership with local agencies to reduce risk and increase safety.
Women only occupational requirement: This role is restricted to women under Schedule 9 (Part 1) of the Equality Act 2010. The nature of the work involves providing support to women who have experienced domestic abuse, and Safenet considers it a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder is a woman.

What We’re Looking For
We believe in recruiting for potential as well as experience. Our ideal candidate will have:
Essential:
- Experience of supporting women affected by domestic abuse and/or related complex needs (e.g., housing insecurity, mental health, substance use), using a trauma-informed and survivor-led approach.
- Knowledge of safeguarding practice for adults, children and young people, and confidence following organisational/local safeguarding procedures.
- Ability to complete risk assessments and co-produce safety and support plans, reviewing them as risk changes and working to agreed timescales.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to build trust, explain options clearly, maintain professional boundaries, and work in a non-judgemental way.
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload, prioritising effectively, meeting deadlines, and maintaining accurate, timely case notes and monitoring/outcome data.
- Confidence working with partner agencies (e.g., housing, police, health, MARAC/IDVA pathways and civil remedies) and making appropriate referrals and signposting.
- Willingness to undertake home visits and lone working, using dynamic risk assessment and following health & safety procedures (including safe professional curiosity in the community).
Desirable:
- Specialist DA/VAWG training and tools (e.g., DASH, MARAC processes, stalking/harassment, honour-based abuse), and confidence applying this knowledge in practice.
- Knowledge of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, protective orders/civil remedies and housing options, with experience supporting women to navigate related pathways.
- Experience completing home security assessments and coordinating target hardening measures (e.g., locks, alarms, lighting), including liaising with landlords, contractors and repairs teams.
- Experience using case management systems and reporting/monitoring tools to evidence outcomes and service impact (including data quality and GDPR/confidentiality).
- If you share our values and are ready to grow through continuous learning, development, and the support of a dedicated team, we want to hear from you!
