The Role

The Discipline Case Officer is responsible for the management of RFU discipline cases, focusing on those related to concerns about discrimination. This will include all aspects of case management from initial notification through to the request for a charging decision.

The role will work closely with the RFU Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) team to provide advice and guidance to the Constituent Body discipline volunteers and club discipline officers who are required to investigate disciplinary matters.

Responsibilities

  • Administration of RFU discipline cases, focusing on discrimination concerns, but may also include on-field foul play incidents or regulatory matters, when required.
  • Assess any misconduct/ discrimination complaints and where required commence investigations, collating necessary evidence.
  • Provide support and advice to clubs who are required to investigate disciplinary matters, including those related to concerns about discrimination.
  • Work with the RFU Inclusion and Diversity (I+D) Team to review educational resources available to the game and the delivery of such resources.
  • Update the RFU case management system with all relevant information
  • Present case summaries to the RFU Head of Discipline to allow for a suitable charging decision to be made
  • Production of hearing case bundles to be used in disciplinary/ appeal hearings.
  • Production/review of any RFU Disciplinary policies and forms, as required.
  • Assist with RFU Discipline training and information events as and when required
  • Develop effective working relationships with Clubs, Constituent Bodies, Match Officials, PRL, Championship, PWR, National League Rugby and tournament organisers.
  • Undertake other duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the organisation.

Essential:

  • Possess excellent organisational skills, and ability to apply these to office systems and processes.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to organise themselves effectively, use time efficiently and demonstrate a thorough approach to work, showing attention to detail and work accuracy.
  • Be competent in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe software as well as Apple hardware and video editing software.
  • Stay up-to-date with current thinking and best practice, proposing recommendations on improvements we can make.
  • Actively collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the development and delivery of the current strategic, business and operational plans.
  • Act as an ambassador for, and promote the best interests of the RFU, including the promotion of our culture and core values – This Rose Means Everyone: Put The Team First, Shape The Future, Respect Each Other.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a legal or regulatory framework
  • Experience or lived experience understanding issues related to Inclusion and diversity
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Laws of the Game
  • An interest and some knowledge of rugby union (including its players and Clubs), disciplinary regulations, decisions and process.
