As part of this development, we are recruiting to two Deputy Clinical Lead roles, working closely with the SCA Clinical Lead and the wider Examinations team to support the ongoing delivery, quality assurance, and strategic development of the SCA.

These are senior clinical leadership opportunities for experienced SCA examiners with a strong interest in assessment, quality assurance, examiner development, and educational standards.

Deputy Clinical Lead – SCA Examiners

Responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership for the SCA Examiner panel, including Lead Examiners. The role oversees examiner training, standardisation, quality assurance, recruitment, and performance management to support fair, valid, and reliable assessment outcomes.

About the roles

Both Deputy Clinical Leads will:

  • deputise for the SCA Clinical Lead where required
  • provide senior clinical leadership and professional expertise
  • support quality assurance, governance, and continuous improvement activity
  • work collaboratively with clinical and operational colleagues across the Examination team
  • contribute to the ongoing evolution and strategic development of the SCA
  • support delivery of fair, robust, defensible, and high-quality examination processes
  • work closely with internal stakeholders including: Chief Examiner, SCA Clinical Lead, Senior Examinations Manager (SCA) and operational teams.

Person Specification

Applicants should:

  • Be a Member or Fellow of the RCGP in good standing with a current licence to practise
  • Be a current member of the SCA Examiner Panel
  • Have significant experience in high-stakes examinations and quality assurance processes
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Have experience of supporting, developing, and working collaboratively with clinical colleagues
  • Demonstrate a commitment to fairness, reliability, continuous improvement, and educational excellence

Additional experience in examiner training, assessment design, case development, educational leadership, or quality improvement would be advantageous depending on the role applied for.

Terms

  • 1 session/per diem per week (8 hours)
  • Salary Band: CLN – £271.59 per session
  • Annual leave and probation arrangements as per clinical organisational structure

Closing statement

These newly structured leadership roles provide an exciting opportunity to help shape the future development of the SCA, supporting high standards in clinical assessment and contributing to the continued evolution of the MRCGP examination.
