Job Description: Day Centre Team Leader
To lead the delivery and ongoing development of day-to-day operations of Emmanuel House's Day Centre, ensuring it remains responsive, relevant and accessible to rough sleepers, people experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable individuals with support needs. The service should be flexible, trauma-informed and open to developing new approaches in response to changing needs, emerging challenges and beneficiary feedback.
The role requires strong and supportive staff leadership, excellent decision-making and triage skills, and the ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable environment. The Day Centre Team Leader will be confident in managing challenging situations, assessing and responding to risk, holding complexity, and providing visible frontline leadership within the Day Centre. The role also requires the ability to build positive relationships with beneficiaries, staff, volunteers and supporters, while maintaining clear boundaries, professional curiosity and forward planning.
Core Responsibilities
- Staff Management
• To lead and develop the Day Centre team.
• Organise staff rotas for each week ensuring leave and sickness cover.
• Delegate staff and volunteer daily workflows.
• Lead daily briefing and de-briefing sessions.
• Foster a positive, trauma informed team culture among staff and volunteers.
• Support staff through training and regular supervision sessions.
• Contribute to the recruitment of team members.
• Supervise the staff in the Day Centre team.

2. Service Delivery
• Provide support for staff and beneficiaries in crisis situations, de-escalating challenging scenarios, coordinating responses and facilitating de-briefs.
Bring a proactive and can-do approach to maintaining a safe supportive environment both inside and outside of the centre, and prioritising resources to ensure services happen on time.
Facilitate monthly beneficiary meetings, collaborating with beneficiaries to codevelop service provision.
Organise and administer partnership meetings with, and on behalf of beneficiaries including MDT meetings.
Oversee the development and maintenance of a compassionate and supportive environment for beneficiaries while ensuring and maintaining professional boundaries in all relationships.
Support staff to collaborate with appropriate agencies and empower beneficiaries to take an active role in recovery and housing solutions.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with agencies serving the homeless community.
Work in close partnership with the Emergency Accommodation and Outreach Teams to deliver consistency and continuity of services and provide outcomes for beneficiaries.
• Collaborate with community and faith groups to support service delivery.
• Ensure the kitchen is suitably provisioned and order supplies as needed.
• Cover the cooking of lunch, when required.
1. Casework Management
• To provide case management for support undertaken by the Day Centre team.
Oversee the undertaking of registrations and risk assessment for beneficiaries ensuring records are up-to-date and completed in a timely manner.
• Allocate casework to support workers, and complete casework where appropriate.
• Undertake complex casework
• Resolve minor complaints from beneficiaries and involve the Operations Manager when addressing more serious issues as needed.
2. Administrative and Compliance Tasks
• Facilitate daily briefing and weekly team meetings.
Ensure staff are compliant in recordkeeping and operational practice, maintaining high professional standards including on the Hanlon data system.
Provide data and information to the Operations Manager and CEO.
• Participate in on-call duties for accommodation on a rota basis.
Build up staff confidence and resilience in the team ensuring they receive regular training on managing conflict and de-escalation so there are high levels of competence across the team.
3. Training and Development
• To develop support workers and volunteers.
• To deliver basic training for staff and volunteers.
• To develop a training matrix and induction for Day Centre staff.
• To undertake training as required.
General Tasks
Engage with a variety of volunteers, donors, people from other services and maintenance staff.
• Promoting best practice in line with our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy.
• Participate in personal professional growth and training opportunities.
Deputise for the Operations Manager as needed.
• Approach problem-solving with a solution-focused mindset.
• Follow all policies and procedures of Emmanuel House.
• Attend staff meetings and supervision sessions.
