MAG are seeking a consultant to provide geospatial risk analysis and recommendations for improvement.
About MAG:
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
Purpose of the assignment:
Mines Advisory Group (MAG) is supporting efforts to assess and manage risks related to explosive ordnance (EO) contamination along a designated infrastructure corridor in Angola. To inform planning and operational decision-making, a geospatial risk analysis is required. This analysis will combine historical EO contamination data with environmental and spatial factors (e.g., vegetation, terrain, proximity indicators) to identify and model contamination risk along the infrastructure line. The consultancy will be conducted in close coordination with MAG (Mines Advisory Group) technical and operational teams. It may imply the National Mine Action Centre (NMAC/MAC) and other stakeholders upon needs and in agreement with the programme management.
Objectives:
The objective of this consultancy is to:
- Develop a geospatial risk model for EO contamination along the specified infrastructure corridor
- Integrate EO contamination data with environmental and spatial datasets
- Support operational decision-making through risk mapping and analysis
- Assess the quality of Mine Action data and provide recommendations for improvement
Expected Outcomes:
The consultant will deliver:
- Inception note (within first few days)
- Methodology
- Workplan
- Data requirements
- Geospatial Risk Model and Maps
- GIS layers
- Risk classification outputs
- Final Report
- Methodology and assumptions
- Results and interpretation (risk analysis, data quality assessment)
- Limitations
- Recommendations
- Presentation to relevant stakeholders
Timeline:
The assignment is expected to commence in May 2026 and run for no longer than 20 working days.
MAG are open to considering for this to be done as a remote or in country consultancy.
Requirements
We’re looking for a consultant with:
- An advanced degree in GIS, geospatial analysis, geography, or a relevant related field
- Proven experience in:
- Geospatial risk modelling
- Spatial analysis (ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar)
- Experience with Mine Action data (IMSMA or similar)
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
Additionally, experience working in humanitarian or post-conflict contexts would be advantageous.

Benefits:
Remuneration is based on submission of final deliverables. Payments will only be made upon MAG’s written acceptance of deliverables. All invoices must clearly reference the consultancy contract and deliverables achieved. Payments will be made within 30 days of receiving a correct invoice.
Prospective consultants may propose an alternative payment schedule in their proposal, should they wish.
