Up to £36,00012 Month Fixed Term Contract / Full TimeStevenage with Hybrid Working

At the IET, making our world a better place starts by creating a better place for our people.

At the IET you’ll have more than just a job. Our work is exciting and challenging, connecting the people who solve the problems that matter. It means working with us has real meaning and impact, and you’ll grow – professionally and personally – in ways you never thought possible.

We’re also making significant investments in our people, including providing a modern, vibrant workplace and embracing hybrid working.

What you'll be doing

As our Community Manager, you’ll lead and develop a selection of global technical networks, working in partnership with volunteers, members, and colleagues across the IET. You’ll play a key role in creating vibrant, engaged communities; building strong relationships with volunteers and supporting them to lead, grow, and deliver meaningful activity. This is a role where people really matter, and you’ll spend time understanding what motivates your communities and how best to support them.

Alongside this, you’ll take a more strategic view, helping to shape the direction of your networks and communities, identifying new opportunities, and aligning activity with wider IET priorities. You’ll bring structure and clarity to plans, while remaining flexible to evolving needs and opportunities across different regions.

Within the role, you’ll work closely with colleagues across the IET to coordinate activity, share insights and ensure a joined-up approach. From generating ideas for new technical topics to supporting community-led initiatives, you’ll help turn ideas into practical, impactful outcomes. Lastly, monitoring performance and engagement will also be an important part of the role. You’ll use data and feedback to understand what’s working, where improvements can be made, and how communities can continue to grow and evolve.

Please note, this role is a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract.

What we hope you can bring to the role

We’re looking for someone with experience of working with volunteers or community-led networks, who understands how to build engagement and create positive, productive relationships.

You’ll be a strong communicator, confident working with a wide range of stakeholders from volunteers and members, to internal teams and senior colleagues. You’ll be able to explain ideas clearly, influence where needed, and bring people together around shared goals.

You’ll also be comfortable working both strategically and operationally. Whether you’re shaping a roadmap, coordinating activity or responding to day-to-day queries, you’ll be organised, proactive and able to keep things moving.

An international outlook is important, as you’ll be working across a global community. You’ll appreciate different perspectives and be able to adapt your approach to different audiences and contexts. Most importantly, you’ll be collaborative, adaptable and people-focused individual; someone who enjoys working with others to create engaged, high-impact communities.

A little more about the role

  • Lead and support a portfolio of global technical communities and volunteers.
  • Build strong, inclusive relationships that encourage engagement and participation.
  • Develop and shape plans and priorities for your community portfolio.

  • Support the growth of communities across different regions and audiences.
  • Coordinate committee activity, events, and resource planning.
  • Monitor performance and engagement, using insights to drive improvement.
  • Advocate for your communities, showcasing their impact and contribution.

A little more about what we’re looking for

  • Experience working with volunteers, communities or network-based activity.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence across a range of audiences.
  • Organised and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Comfortable working both strategically and operationally.
  • Ability to interpret information and use insights to support decision-making.
  • An international outlook, with an appreciation for cultural diversity.
