About The Jawbone Collective CIC

The Jawbone Collective is launching an ambitious new community word café and creative space on Fordington Green in Dorchester! Rooted in storytelling, spoken word, poetry, and bardic traditions—both historical and contemporary—we are building a vibrant home for words in all their forms. Alongside our literary and performance programming, the space brings together a whole food plant-based menu, speciality coffee, local book/merch retail, and community advocacy into one welcoming venue. As a grassroots Community Interest Company, we are creating a space where creative culture and commercial sustainability go hand-in-hand.

The Role: Driving Café, Retail & Venue Success

We are seeking a commercially minded, organised problem-solver to help manage the many moving parts of a thriving social enterprise. From tracking daily café sales and retail margins to keeping supplier flows smooth and back-office accounts tight, you will play a hands-on role in making our café, literary shop, and community venture an ongoing success.

The Scope of What You’ll Do:

*Café & Retail Systems Setup: Take the lead on setting up and streamlining our Xero bookkeeping and Square Point-of-Sale (POS) systems—tailored specifically for retail book sales, menu tracking, and café till workflows.

Commercial & Margin Tracking: Work alongside our kitchen and café team to track food, coffee, and retail stock margins, ensure clear pricing, and log supplier invoices efficiently.
Multi-Faceted Business Support: Manage weekly bookkeeping, oversee routine compliance, monitor retail inventory turnover, and keep total operational visibility across all café and literary event activities.

Be a key strategic partner to the directors, helping us balance a warm, community-first ethos with sharp, sustainable business habits.

Who We’re Looking For:

You love variety, systems, and seeing a venue thrive. You understand that a great community café and retail space needs strong commercial habits behind the scenes to keep the magic alive. Whether your background is in hospitality ops, small business administration, or retail finance, you enjoy managing multiple moving parts with clarity, enthusiasm, and care.
